Microsoft has announced the launch of a new AI product that aims to transform the way people use their computers and create content. Microsoft AI Copilot is a copilot for Windows 11 that combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with the data generated by the Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 applications .
For example, AI Copilot in Bing can help users search the web more efficiently and effectively by understanding their queries and providing relevant results, summaries, and insights. AI Copilot in Edge can help users browse the web more safely and securely by detecting malicious sites, blocking ads, and managing passwords. AI Copilot in PC can help users optimize their computer performance by managing storage, battery, updates, and security.
AI Copilot also works seamlessly with the Microsoft 365 apps that users already use every day, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. AI Copilot provides context-aware assistance, enabling users to enhance their productivity and creativity while working on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, emails, chats, and more. Users can ask AI Copilot to write, edit, summarize, create, design, and more.
Microsoft also announced a new experience called Business Chat, which works across the LLMs, the Microsoft 365 apps, and the data in the Microsoft Graph. Business Chat is a natural language conversation interface that can do things that users have never been able to do before. Users can ask Business Chat questions like “tell my team how we updated the product strategy” and it will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails, and chat threads.
Microsoft claims that AI Copilot can help users save time, reduce errors, and focus on more satisfying work. According to GitHub data, among developers who have used GitHub Copilot, a similar product that helps write code, 88 percent say they are more productive, 77 percent say the tool helps them spend less time searching for information, and 74 percent say they can focus their efforts on more satisfying work.
Microsoft AI Copilot is set to roll out on September 26 for all Windows 11 users. Business Chat will be available for enterprise customers in November. Microsoft says that AI Copilot is built with responsible AI practices and adheres to its existing commitments to data security and privacy in the enterprise.
